Dear friends,
It is difficult to stay grounded these days. We want to be responsible and do our part, which is indeed important. But the quality of how we can be present to ourselves, our community and the larger world can make all the difference.
The headlines scream for my attention, draining me of hope, perspective and life. Nature lures me in, nurturing me with connection, beauty and wisdom.
Join me for a moment.
I woke up not long before the full lunar eclipse in Pisces and decided to grab my warm, cozy blanket and go outside to witness the wonder. As I settled in to watch, the moon was already turning dusky red as the earth’s shadow fell across her surface, just a sliver of clear bright white remaining. I watched the shadow completely cover her surface, so blending her into the night sky’s velvety darkness that only a trace remained.
The cold, along with increased cloud cover, prevented me from witnessing the full reveal on the far side of the eclipse. Even what I witnessed moved me deeply, reminding me that we are connected to and a part of the natural world, first and foremost, not the world of technology, machines and tasks. We are most alive, and at home, in nature because we, too, are nature. Nature isn’t something “other” over there, it is who we are, our primary habitat and bedrock.
Twice each year we have an eclipse season, where the sun, moon and earth align, causing two, or possibly three, solar or lunar eclipses. This morning’s full lunar eclipse will conclude March 29 with a partial solar eclipse. Our ancestors, astrologers and those who live closer to nature than we do in the west, have known that eclipses open a powerful portal for releasing what no longer serves and welcomes in transformation and expansion, both personally and collectively.
While the portal itself is marked by the two (or three) eclipses, the impact is felt for months before and afterwards. It is often a time of turmoil and change, so the old can make way for the new. And that certainly seems to be borne out in our country and our world.
We are not pawns in this process. We can work with this energy within our own lives as well as in the larger context. We often think of ourselves as small, at the whim of larger forces and wondering who we are to impact what is going on?
We are, in reality, beings of light and love walking this planet for a short period of time in this body, this context, this storyline. We are, each one of us, shards of divinity embedded in matter, having an experience and impacting the evolution of consciousness happening all around and within us.
We can recognize both within ourselves and our world what is unhealed and hurting ourselves and others. We can identify patterns we inherited or learned to survive that no longer serve. We can climb up on the balcony of our own lives and see the forces at play, releasing the storylines that keep us stuck, fearful, clinging for control and security in something outside of ourselves—money, power, prestige. And we can learn to let go. To live into the love, free from the fear.
And we can choose—the biggest gift we’ve been given—how we want to live whatever days remain in this extraordinary experience called life.

Our thoughts and our emotions frame our experience. And our individual choice impacts our collective experience in ways we are just barely beginning to glimpse.
Rather than drowning in the endless news cycle, take some time to anchor in what it is you desire. Your list may be similar to mine or quite different. I’d love to hear your dreams in the comments.
Choose love in the face of hatred.
Choose courage in the face of fear.
Choose generosity in the face of scarcity.
Choose solidarity in the face of rejection.
Choose life in the face of death.
Choose connection in the face of isolation.
Choose diversity in the face of uniformity.
Choose gentleness in the face of pain.
Choose fierceness in the face of abuse.
Choose unity in the face of division.
Choose growing in the face of perfection.
Choose play in the face of seriousness.
Choose harmony in the face of difference.
Choose stillness in the face of stress.
Choose being present in the face of distraction.
Choose creativity in the face of overwhelm.
Choose a walk in the woods in the face of being trapped in thoughts.
I could go on, but you get the idea. In reality, we are closer than we might imagine to a new way of being human. Just as prior evolutions led to significant jumps—from single celled to ever greater complexity, from within the oceans to land and air—what is emerging through this chaotic, divisive and scary time is an expansion of consciousness. We are being faced with the choice to embrace a new way of being human.
The power lies within each one of us. Each choice we make in how think and act moves us closer—or further—from this reality. The way we treat ourselves, others and our world, at even the tiniest level, impacts the whole universe.
I encourage you to use this eclipse portal’s potent energy to release what no longer serves to make room for what does…within yourself and on behalf of humanity. And, perhaps take a walk to reconnect with the natural world partnering with us in this important work.
Blessings and love,
Elizabeth

St. Teresa of Avila wrote: 'All difficulties in prayer can be traced to one cause: praying as if God were absent.' This is the conviction that we bring with us from early childhood and apply to everyday life and to our lives in general. It gets stronger as we grow up, unless we are touched by the Gospel and begin the spiritual journey. This journey is a process of dismantling the monumental illusion that God is distant or absent.

There is almost a sensual longing for communion with others who have a large vision. The immense fulfillment of the friendship between those engaged in furthering the evolution of consciousness has a quality impossible to describe.
