This beautiful artwork hangs in my office, reminding me to slow down and reconnect with nature, with myself, with the holy. I love the burrowed animals, the intrepid fox and the luminous moon reflecting in the pool. Somehow her hair evokes the wind, the water and the light all at the same time.
Amid the festivities and lights, the suffering and war, we make our annual descent into the deepest darkness this night. Most of us don’t tend toward the darkness, solitude or silence—and our world willingly assists our collective avoidance. Even when my soul yearns for it, technology, responsibilities and lovely opportunities all exert a powerful gravitational pull.
Yet something elemental is stirring in the darkness. Subtle. Intuitive. The Divine Feminine, moving within each of us and in our hurting world, inviting us to open ourselves to the mystery, the possibility. What gift might this season hold for us?
Reconnecting with our essence is about noticing the myriad invitations to pause hidden within our lives. A cloud formation, a piece of art, a flicker of candlelight or a precious story recounted for the 100th time are, in the end, opportunities to fall in love with our life and this broken world all over again for the first time.
It begins with seeing in and through the brokenness. Allow love to have its way with you, that you may be love in the world. Trust yourself to this mystery. There is hope for the world discovered in the depths.
Community Practice:
For a meditation on reconnecting to the depths, allow yourself to be nourished for seven minutes by Beautiful Chorus. Ideally, listen while walking outside or softly gazing outside, sitting in the dark or whenever you can gift yourself just a few moments. Repeat throughout the week as desired and perhaps journal what the experience was like for you.
